Fostering Industry Exchange with the Berlin-LA VR/AR/XR Trade Mission
Over the course of an action-packed five day program from October 29 to November 2 2018, the Berlin-LA VR/AR/XR Trade Mission connected pioneers from both cities to foster knowledge exchange, strengthen international partnerships and spark new collaborations as part of a media:net Berlin-Brandenburg initiative. 23 companies, universities and institutions leading film, television, and immersive media in the German capital region travelled to world entertainment hub Los Angeles for a deep-dive into the North American VR/XR/AR market.
Day 1 introduced delegates to the future thinkers of LA’s old and new guard in the entertainment industry, with presentations by the American Motion Picture Academy’s Sci-Tech Council and the Art-Sci Lab at UCLA, as well as at Nonny De la Pena’s Emblematic Group and Snap Lab.
Day 2 focused on immersive media specialists and connected delegates with both startups and industry giants including Technicolor, VR Playhouse, Afternow, Verizon Digital Media Services and Intel Studios.
Participation in the inaugural edition of the Infinity Film Festival marked the end of the journey, with a rich program exploring the significance of emerging technologies from AI to IoT and Blockchain on the entertainment world.
Reflecting on the success of the trade mission, Andrea Peters, CEO of media:net Berlin Brandenburg remarked that “Los Angeles and Babelsberg are two film locations with a century-old tradition that are today at the interface of innovative media technologies and narrative styles as storytelling, content and technology merge. The exchange with colleagues in LA was very valuable and should have a lasting effect on the cooperation between actors of both metropolises.”
